Myeongsoo Kim is an artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Trained in architecture before turning to art, he works across photography, sculpture, and archival images to explore emotional and perceptual distance. His photographs and hand-built frames bring light, material, and the viewer’s body into relation, asking how distance can be measured yet remain beyond reach.
Since 2016, Kim has returned to the Salton Sea. His ongoing project, The Sea Changes Medium, follows what becomes visible, airborne, and valuable as water retreats. Photographs, historical images, and sculptural constructions trace a landscape whose boundaries extend beyond its shoreline.
Kim holds an MFA from Yale School of Art and a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University. His work has been exhibited at Rivalry Projects, CUE Art Foundation, the Yeh Art Gallery at St. John’s University, Asia Society Texas, and the Seoul Museum of Art.
